The mechanism behind Socrates is simple enough to explain in two sentences.
Tutors log in with Facebook, and provide a brief description of what subjects they tutor, and how much they charge.
Students looking for help with classes or finals can open Socrates, without making an account, and get a list of all the tutors who are online right now. From there they can chat and arrange to meet up.
Thats all there is! But it solves a problem that has frustrated us ever since we got involved in tutoring. Its very difficult for students and tutors to find each other. Before now, it has been mostly by word-of-mouth, finding flyers posted in departments, or the inconvenience, low attention, and inflexible hours of departmental tutoring.
We looked at something complicated and asked: whats the very easiest way to do this?
